They can diagnose complex disorders in babies before they are born, helping prepare parents for their child’s health care needs at birth and beyond.
Our maternal fetal medicine specialists work closely with physicians at Oregon Health & Science University and other specialists in diagnosing and treating newborn heart disease and repairing birth defects. They provide expert consultation for pregnant women who are dealing with complications related to hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes and lupus.
They also consult with expectant parents facing genetic concerns, including pregnancies with increased risk for Down syndrome or family histories of inherited disease. Our specialists travel monthly to Klamath Falls to provide expert care to pregnant women in that region, including advanced ultrasound.
The maternal fetal medicine specialists work closely with Asante’s neonatology team, providing a seamless transition from the womb to the neonatal intensive care unit. High-risk pregnancy
We provide specialized care to older women and women with a history of miscarriage, complicated pregnancies or genetic issues. Our team can connect you with other specialists when needed, such as neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric surgeons, lactation consultants and pediatricians. We also help your obstetrician or primary care physician treat such complications as high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, heart disease and thrombophilias.
3-D and 4-D ultrasound
We offer the latest technology in 3-D and 4-D ultrasound, enabling you to see detailed, real-time pictures and video of your baby in the womb.
Asante’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic is the only practice in the region to receive accreditation in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. We are committed to using ultrasound equipment safely and effectively.
Gestational diabetes
Gestational diabetes, or diabetes developed during pregnancy, occurs in as many as eight in every 100 pregnant women. We provide routine testing for gestational diabetes as well as treatment and monitoring for women diagnosed with the condition. When needed, Asante’s certified diabetes educators and nutritionists work with you to keep blood sugar levels under control.
Genetic testing and counseling
Every woman has the option to explore specific testing for fetal abnormalities. For those women as well as women with a personal or family history of birth defects, we offer a knowledgeable and compassionate nurse practitioner with training in genetics, who will help you understand the options for genetic testing, including maternal serum screening and amniocentesis.
