Expert care and collaboration

We believe that top-quality patient care requires collaboration and teamwork. We’ve assembled a highly knowledgeable and experienced team of specialists, clinicians, nurses, technicians and therapists to work with you and your doctor to ensure you get high-quality medical care.

Asante’s heart and vascular program has been in existence for more than 35 years, during which time our surgeons have performed more than 16,000 cardiac operations. Asante's board-certified, extremely experienced cardiothoracic surgeons, along with cardiologists, provide around-the-clock cardiac care. Performing more than 500 cardiac operations each year, our surgeons keep their skills on the leading edge of cardiac technology.

We also work with specialists from Southern Oregon Cardiology LLC and Oregon Surgical Specialists, PC. Both groups are located in the Cardiovascular Institute building on the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center campus.

Cardiothoracic surgeons

A thoracic surgeon is a medical doctor who performs operations on the heart, lungs, esophagus and other organs in the chest. This also includes surgeons who can be called cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, general thoracic surgeons and congenital heart surgeons.

Cardiologists

A specialist in cardiology; a specialist in the structure and function and disorders of the heart.

Electrophysiologists

Cardiac electrophysiology is the science of elucidating, diagnosing and treating the electrical activities of the heart.

Vascular surgeons

A vascular surgeon is a specialist who evaluates and treats diseases of the blood vessels. Treatment can include traditional open surgery and endovascular approaches. Some of these surgeries may include:

  • Removing the plaque from an artery
  • Bypassing the area of obstruction with a graft
  • Performing endovascular procedures

Because of their training, vascular surgeons are uniquely qualified to diagnose all vascular diseases and interpret a wide variety of diagnostic tests.

Cardiac anesthesiologists

A cardiovascular anesthesiologist is a physician who specializes in providing anesthesia care for patients undergoing either cardiac (heart), thoracic (lungs) or vascular (blood vessels) surgery. As a physician, your anesthesiologist spent four years in medical school and another four years training to provide anesthesia during surgery. Cardiovascular anesthesiologists often spend another 1-2 years learning the particular field of cardiac and vascular anesthesia. Hospitals that specialize in cardiac, thoracic or vascular surgery often have teams that specialize in doing just these types of surgery. The specialized teams consist of surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses and the intensive care unit staff.
