Education

Charles Carmeci, MD, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He completed an internship in surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and his residency in general surgery at Stanford University in Stanford, California. He also completed a surgical oncology research fellowship at Stanford and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dr. Carmeci is board-certified in general surgery and cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

Everyone I had contact with was helpful, informative, friendly - couldn't ask for any better. RE: a couple of the previous questions, you need to provide a N/A or similar option. For example, Dr. Carmeci ordered tests, but I haven't even had the tests yet so no one could call to let me know the results.

All staff I had contact with were really friendly, caring and supportive of my condition. Questions were answered and waiting times were reasonable. When one test couldn’t be completed all efforts were made to expedite the rest of my tests scheduled for that day. To me it was phenomenal to receive this kind of care.

I had met with Dr. [ ] the day before meeting with Dr. Carmeci in preparation for TAVR procedure. Dr. [ ] took an adequate amount of time to learn about my medical situation and to get to know me as a unique patient, not just one more statistic coming thru that office for a heart valve replacement. I felt I was in good care and comfortable about going forward with heart surgery. Dr. Carmeci the next day was in a hurry and spent little time with me, I have to assume because he had everything he needed to know from Dr.[ ]'s interview notes. Being in the peek of health, attending an exercise class 3X a week, my need for TAVR came as a shock and was just discovered in Sept. I have limited my activities these last few weeks as I wait, and wait, and wait, not wanting to set off a stroke. The nurses have done their best to keep me informed and I feel sorry for them as they have to warn me that I may yet get bumped from my scheduled procedure.

My visit was a first time visit to talk about my [ ]. The office staff was considerate and efficient. The patient room was organized and clean. Dr. Carmeci eased my fears regarding my scheduled surgery and explained the process of the procedure and after care. He gave my daughter and myself the opportunity to ask questions. We even got a little laugh out of him.

I couldn't be happier with both Dr. [ ] and Dr. Carmeci. I have complete confidence in them and Lindsey at Dr. Carmeci's office also gets very high marks for her ability to answer questions I had regarding scheduling and getting back to me answers to a few questions that I have had. I had a call from a young lady at his office doing my schedule who was very helpful, but said she would call back ,and hasn't , I suspect she wasn't able to find an answer. Perhaps tomorrow. Very difficult and frustrating to get anyone on the phone to discuss and or schedule appointments. When they give you a callback number it goes to the main line and requires several calls again to find the right person to talk with.

EARLY ON IN THE PROCESS, AFTER MY ANGIOGRAM, GLENDA [ ] FROM THE HEART VALVE CLINIC EXPLAINED IN GREAT DETAIL THE VARIOUS METHODS THAT ARE USED TO REPLACE THE AORTOC VALVE, AND ADVISED THAT THE VARIOUS TESTS THAT WERE SCHEDULED WOULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IN THE DECISION. I, OF COURSE, WANTED THE TAVR METHOD, BUT AT THIS POINT IT WASN'T A FOREGONE CONCLUSION. I APPRECIATED HER HONESTY, AND I WAS PREPARED IN CASE I DIDN'T GET THE TAVR METHOD.MY IMPRESSION IS THAT EVERYONE AT ASANTE CARDIO/THORACIC NOT ONLY KNOWS WHAT THEY DO, BUT CAN ALSO EXPLAIN TO A PATIENT WHAT THEY DO, IN A FRIENDLY, CONVERSATIONAL MANNER, FROM DRS. Frankly, everyone was fabulous. From lower staff, to Dr. Carmici, everyone was first class in their work. The only suggestion I can make is to provide insulated staff lounges where they can talk and add to a suggestion box while not being disturbing to any patients. It didn't bother me but I can block

I am going for surgery on [DATE] and they have kept the anxiety at a minimum and have always been available and prompt when I need help and have questions.
