  2. If you are an Asante employee and ACLS renewal is not required for your job role, please proceed with registration on this page.

Health care professionals seeking to renew their current ACLS certification in Medford should register for this course with online and in-person components.

Heartcode® is a blended learning program that provides advanced life support training through a combination of a self-paced, adaptive online learning module and hands on skills practice and testing.

  • Step 1: You must complete the online modules (sold separately) prior to attending a skill session. Available at https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-acls.
  • Step 2: 4-hour ACLS Skill practice and testing (the second step of the two-step process).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a course developed by the American Heart Association for the training of health care providers. The ACLS Provider course emphasizes three major concepts:

  1. The critical importance of early high quality CPR and early defibrillation to patient survival.
  2. The integration of effective BLS with ACLS interventions.
  3. The critical importance of effective high performance team interaction, timing and communication during resuscitation.

Through instruction and active participation in simulated cases, students will enhance skills in recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post cardiac arrest care, acute arrhythmia, stroke and acute coronary syndrome.

Upon successful completion, participants are issued an ACLS provider card through the American Heart Association. Provider status is valid for two years, and a renewal course is required to remain an ACLS provider.

Objectives

Upon completion of the ACLS course the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating AED use.
  • Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation, termination of resuscitation or transfer of care.
  • Identify and treat ischemic chest pain and expedite the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
  • Recognize other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death.
  • Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.

Prerequisites

  1. Participants should have basic EKG interpretation and pharmacology knowledge. These are not taught in class.
  2. Registration and module completion verification begins 15 minutes before class start time.
  3. Participants must come to the class knowledgeable and able to perform recognition and response skills related to BLS, respiratory emergencies, pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, tachycardias, acute coronary syndrome, treatment of stroke), cardiac arrest (ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation, PEA, asystole), and post arrest care.
  4. Required:
    • Participants must complete the HeartCode® ACLS online course prior to attending the ACLS hands on session.
    • Participants must email their HeartCode® ACLS completion certificate prior to class to ahaeducation@asante.org or bring a printed certificate of completion to class to participate. Participant will be turned away if completion certificate is not provided.

    • Ebook is available for reference with HeartCode® ACLS purchase; no book pick up is necessary.
