Description
The Asante Health Care Provider Basic Life Support class trains participants to promptly recognize life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an automatic external defibrillator, or AED. Asante classes incorporate science and education from the American Heart Association.
Upon successful completion, participants will be granted a BLS health care provider card through the American Heart Association. Provider cards are valid for two years, and a renewal course is required to remain a BLS provider.
Objectives
This course teaches:
- High-quality CPR for adults, children and infants.
- The American Heart Association Chain of Survival.
- Important early use of an AED.
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device.
- Importance of teams in multi-rescurer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member.
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.
BLS provider manual
A BLS provider manual is recommended. Purchase a hard-copy or ebook here or borrow a book in class.

Location
Classes will be held in the Smullin Health Education Center on the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center campus in Medford. Maps are available on request.
Registration deadline
Enrollment is limited and will be accepted on a first-come basis. Payment must accompany registration to be accepted. Confirmation and course information will be emailed to the provided email address. The course may be canceled if fewer than three people enroll.
Cancellations
Cancellations must be received via email 24 hours prior to the course for a refund. No refunds will be made after the 24-hour deadline. If the class is canceled, registrants will receive an email notification.
Agenda
Classes take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Check-in begins 15 minutes before the class start time. This initial certification course lasts approximately four hours, with one short break.
Course eligibility
For community members or Asante employees whose job does not require basic life support knowledge as part of the job description.
