Advanced technology for cancer treatment
Every cancer patient is an individual with a unique treatment plan. The type, location, size and stage of cancer are all used to determine the right course of treatment for each person. The three most common types of cancer treatments are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. A person may have just one of these treatments, but often a combination of several treatments is the best defense against recurrence. When used in combination, these different treatment options offer powerful tools for helping the body fight off cancer. For example, doctors may use radiation to shrink the size of a tumor before surgery, or they may prescribe radiation to kill any cancer cells that remain following surgery or chemotherapy.
Surgery
When surgery is part of your treatment plan
Every cancer patient has an individualized treatment plan. If surgery is part of your treatment, you can rest assured that we provide the best care possible—before, during and after surgery.
Every cancer surgery is different, depending on the size and the location of the tumor. In most cases, the goal of surgery is to remove as much of the cancerous tissue as possible. Your surgery may be performed as either an inpatient or an outpatient procedure. At Asante we work in collaboration with general surgeons who specialize in many different types of cancer-based surgeries.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy
Many patients receive some type of chemotherapy as part of their treatment plan. During chemotherapy, drugs are administered to destroy cancer cells. Often these drugs are delivered directly to the vein through an intravenous needle.
Chemotherapy may be provided in the hospital, at home or at one of our outpatient infusion centers in Medford and Grants Pass. You’ll receive treatment from registered nurses who are specially trained and certified in oncology. The nurse monitors your treatment closely and educates you and your family about what to expect during and after chemotherapy.
In Medford patients receive outpatient chemotherapy treatments at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Grants Pass patients receive treatments at Spears Cancer Center on the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center campus. Find a location

Radiation
Radiation therapy
Radiation therapy is a common type of cancer treatment that may be used alone or in combination with surgery, chemotherapy or other medical therapies. The goal of radiation is to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells without exposing the body’s healthy tissues to radiation.
At your first appointment, the radiation oncologist discusses the best type of radiation therapy for you. All cancers are different, and all of our treatments are highly customized to deliver the most-effective therapy possible.

TomoTherapy
TomoTherapy
The TomoTherapy® Hi-Art treatment system is an advanced and effective type of radiation therapy for certain cancers or tumors that are not located near the surface of the body. Using detailed 3D body mapping from CT imaging, thin beams of radiation are aimed with precision at the tumor or cancer cells.

TomoTherapy® offers the latest technology in radiation therapy
The TomoTherapy Hi-Art treatment system is one of the leading innovations in the field of radiation therapy. Asante invested in the TomoTherapy machine because it vastly improves our ability to personalize radiation treatments on a daily basis, maximizing the effectiveness of the treatment while minimizing the damage to healthy tissue. TomoTherapy is particularly effective for cancers that are difficult to treat with conventional radiation therapy because of their size or location.
Keep in mind that radiation therapy is always tailored to the particular needs of the patient. Although TomoTherapy is innovative, it may not necessarily be the best option for you. The radiation oncologist will always choose the type of therapy that’s best for your situation.
The TomoTherapy Hi-Art treatment system is a specialized CT scanner that takes 3D images of your body every time you come in for treatment. The radiation team uses these images to pinpoint any changes in the areas affected by cancer and to refine that day’s treatment accordingly. This means that you never get excess radiation and that the radiation being used is going exactly where it needs to be.
