Electrophysiology study

Not every heart beats in perfect time. For patients with a heart rhythm problem, Asante’s board-certified cardiologists have the tools and the experience to help.

An intracardiac electrophysiologic study (EPS) is a detailed analysis of the electrical conduction system of the heart, which generates the heartbeat. EPS may be used to help diagnose abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia) undetectable by other testing methods. EPS can also help locate the area of the heart responsible for the abnormal rhythm and determine possible treatments. Diagnostic electrophysiologic studies are routine heart catheterization procedures used to identify and guide the treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

EPS uses sophisticated, state-of-the-art 3D electroanatomical mapping systems (like a global positioning system for the heart) to guide the clinician’s understanding and treatment of complex heart rhythm dysfunction mechanisms. Often these specialized tools are used in conjunction with traditional treatment such as pacemakers and defibrillators to get the heart beating in rhythm again.
