Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center named a 100 Top Hospital in the nation for 2021

Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals 2021Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center has been named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list. This is the eighth time the hospital has received this national recognition.

“Receiving this honor is especially meaningful this year after the unprecedented challenges our doctors, nurses and employees have faced due to the pandemic,” said Mick Zdeblick, senior vice president and CEO at Asante Rogue Regional. “This award reflects their enduring commitment to the health and safety of our entire community.”

IBM Watson Health evaluated 2,675 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in the United States to compile its list that recognizes excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health.

“Our staff have shown unsurpassed dedication this year and we are proud to receive this recognition that reflects their clinical excellence and their compassion for our patients and their families,” said Amanda Kotler, RN, vice president of Nursing at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. "Having our hospital recognized shows what's possible when exceptional people work together for a common purpose."

Included in this year’s ranking of top hospitals is a measure of a hospital’s contributions to community health with a focus on equity. Hospitals were surveyed on three components:

1)     Assessing hospital contributions to community health as a provider of critical services for community health and preventive care.

2)     Identifying ways that hospitals contribute to community health as a community partner teaming up with local organizations to implement critical programs.

3)     Focusing on how hospitals promote community health through their practices as anchor institutions supporting local economic and social progress.

“Community partnerships are vitally important to addressing priority health needs in our communities and to share valuable insights, tools and resources,” said Kristi Blackhurst, RN, vice president of Operations at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. “The most recent example was the partnership with Jackson County Public Health, Providence and the Oregon National Guard for two mass-vaccination events in Jackson County where thousands of people were quickly and efficiently vaccinated for COVID-19.”

IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals had better results on key clinical and operational performance indicators, including better patient survival rates, fewer patient complications and health-care-associated infections, lower 30-day mortality and readmission rates, shorter lengths of stay, lower inpatient expenses and higher patient experience ratings.

In fiscal year 2020 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, there were:

  • 15,763 inpatients discharged
  • 45,962 emergency department visits
  • 1,684 babies delivered
  • 609 open-heart procedures performed
  • 351 neonatal intensive care unit discharges
  • 9,799 surgeries performed
  • 869 trauma cases

The IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list is determined using independent and objective research to analyze hospital performance.
