Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center Named
a 100 Top Hospital in the Nation for 2018
The only Oregon hospital to achieve this prestigious designation
For the fifth year in a row — and the sixth time overall — Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center has been named a 100 Top Hospital in the Nation by IBM Watson Health based on independent evaluation of publically available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction metrics data. Asante Rogue Regional is the only hospital in Oregon and Washington to be recognized in 2018 by Watson Health, which analyzed 2,740 hospitals nationwide to select its top 100.
Watson Health (formerly known as Truven Health Analytics) has produced its list of winners for 25 years. “Our position among the top U.S. hospitals was earned through the outstanding work of our leaders, physicians, health care providers, employees and volunteers,” said Mick Zdeblick, CEO of Asante Rogue Regional. “No matter a person’s role at Asante, everyone makes a difference in the care of our patients. It’s truly a team effort.”
Based on their research, Watson Health found that 100 Top Hospital award winners demonstrated that quality care and operational efficiency can often be achieved simultaneously. “Improving quality and efficiency helps keep costs down for patients, resulting in a better experience for them and hospitals alike,” said Dr. Jamie Grebosky, Asante’s chief quality and patient safety officer. “It’s a win-win for patients and Asante as we transition to a model of care that’s based on patient-centered outcomes rather than the volume of procedures or the number of patients we provide care.”
The Watson Health study projects that if all Medicare inpatients cared for in U.S. hospitals received the same level of care as those treated in the award-winning facilities:
- More than 102,000 additional lives could be saved
- More than 43,000 additional patients could be free of complications
- More than $4.4 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
- Approximately 200,000 fewer discharged patients would be readmitted within 30 days
The 2018 award is based on data from two years prior. According to the Watson Health study, hospitals on the 100 Top list outperformed like-sized hospitals across the country in
11 areas of clinical and operational performance benchmarks in 2016, including: Lower inpatient mortality, fewer patient complications, health-care-associated infection, lower 30-day mortality and 30-day readmission rates, sending patients home sooner, providing more timely emergency care, and keeping expenses low from in-hospital through the after-care process.
Hospitals do not apply for award consideration and winners do not pay to market this honor. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. Information on the IBM Watson Health study and the complete list of 100 Top Hospital winners are available at 100tophospitals.com.
